Terry Pratchet
Starting with "The Color of Magic" and it's sequel "The Light Fantastic" Pratchet created the Discworld. There are over 30 books about the Discworld and I have read a lot of them. There are a few series of books (based on characters), about Rincewind, Death, Witches, ... some of these were reissued as trilogies.
Some of his books were adapted for theatre, many are issued in audio format, there are a few illustrated books, a Discworld "encyclopedia", maps....
The first Pratchet's book I have read was "Good Omens". That book is written with Nail Gaimen and it isn't about Discworld, but I really liked their sense of humor, so I started reading every book I've found.
Also popular is the "Nomes" trilogy - it is a big part about religion.
